Borderlands is getting a sequel and Gearbox doesn’t know what it’s called yet

If you’re a Borderlands fan we have great news for you: Gearbox Software will start work on a new game in the series, as soon as they finish on Battleborn and its downloadable content.

At a PAX East panel, Gearbox confirmed the new game, but as yet, it’s title is still up in the air. While Gearbox created the first two games, The Pre-Sequel and Tales from the Borderlands were developed by other studios.

“It’s no secret, obviously there’s going to be another Borderlands,” Said CEO and president of Gearbox Randy Pitchford, “We don’t even know if we’re going to call it that. We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know.”

The only other information we have right now is that Mikey Neumann (voice of Scooter from the first game and writer) will be penning the new game, and he may be inserting Scooter’s son, Scooper into the story. This isn’t set in concrete yet, but it would at least suggest that the game takes place some time after the second instalment.

So there’s definitely going to be a new Borderlands – which is great news. What isn’t great news is the fact that no no work has started on the new game, so it’s going to be a few years off.

To end off we’d like to pitch something to Gearbox: use our header image for the game’s boxart. If the arm coming out of screen is a bit silly, we suggest this art we found floating around with no artist attached:
