Space Hulk Deathwing lets you punch aliens in the face as a space marine

Any good journalist has to reveal when they have a bias, so we’re going to state that we have an unhealthy love for the Warhammer 40K universe.

But, we have some gameplay from Space Hulk Deathwing, and it looks objectively awesome.

Let’s catch up for a second; Warhammer 40K is a tabletop wargame created by Games Workshop. Over the decades it has existed its expanded to include a massive universe, multiple games and a rabid fanbase (of which, we include ourselves).

Space Hulk was a spinoff of that universe, a boardgame where players had to navigate the inside of massive spaceships, fighting off aliens. Lastly, “Deathwing” is a subchapter of the legendary space marines. You may not know them by name, but they formed the basis for the look and feel of everything from Halo to Gears of War.

If all of that means nothing to you, or you simply don’t care: Space Hulk Deathwing is an FPS in which you, a hulking half machine marine, stomp around in a spaceship tearing aliens to pieces.

If that didn’t excite you, we’re sorry but you’ve been lost somewhere along the road and there’s little we can do for you. On the plus side, we know the afterlife has internet access, which eases most of our fears about death.

For the fans: you’ll be playing a Deathwing librarian collecting artefacts from the space hulks while fighting off Genestealers and other Tyranids.

Gameplay looks to be a solid mix of shooting and melee, as The Emperor likes it, and there’s great additions like customisation and localised damage. And the story has some pedigree too with writing from ex-writer for White Dwarf and current Black Library author (among many other roles) Gav Thorpe.

Okay, we’re done fan-boying out, we’ll have more information about this game as we learn it, with hopefully less bias.
