You can now play Titan Quest on your iPhone and iPad

There’s no denying that smartphones are getting more powerful, but something that has taken us aback here at htxt.africa is the announcement that Titan Quest is on the Apple App Store.

That’s right, the “Diablo-esque” hack-and-slash RPG that was released on PC back in 2006 by THQ is available to play on your iPhone or iPad right now. That means another game that required a fairly beefy PC to play just ten years ago now runs on tablets and phones.

As most gamers know, THQ is sadly no longer with us so this version has been released by DotEmu.

The French firm ports older games on to newer platforms such as smartphones and tablets. In the past the firm has also released versions of Sanitarium (a PC game from 1998) and ’80s arcade classics Double Dragon, Double Dragon 2: The Revenge, and Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone for Android and iOS.

The premise of Titan Quest is simple: explore the open-world civilizations of ancient Greece, Egypt, Babylon and China, level up your character, farm loot and, of course, send all manner of enemies, including minotaurs, gorgons and hydras, back to the pits of Hades.

Players will be able to select from 30 different character classes and can choose from 150 skills.

As this was originally a PC game that was released in a time before touch-screens were ubiquitous, the interface has had to be overhauled to make it touch-friendly. Players will also be able to save their game to the cloud so they can switch between playing on their phones to playing on an iPad without losing their progress.

According to DotEmu there are over 1200 items to collect with a playtime of 60 hours. We figure that’s how long it will take you to complete all the main and side missions because we remember sinking days weeks into the original Titan Quest back in the day.

Titan Quest is available now on the App Store for a cool R139.99, which is really not bad for a game that you will get hours of play-time out of, if you like hack-and-slash RPGs.

That’s our weekend entertainment sorted then.
