MIT looking for innovative local students to join its startup programme

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) will soon be launching its Global Startup Labs programme and is looking for tech-savvy students to sign up.

MIT Global Startup Labs partners with universities in emerging regions to organise advanced courses focused on mobile and internet technologies taught by MIT instructors and is structured so that participants can realise the commercial possibilities of technology.

The institute has partnered with Wits University and the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE) for the South African leg of the programme.

Students will gain first-hand experience of the process involved in innovating and building a technology startup.

“The programme is particularly ideal for teams who have either begun to think about a startup idea they would like to pursue or are in the nascent stages of pursuing it already,” Professor Barry Dwolatzky, Director of the JCSE said in a statement.

“We are looking for teams that exhibit a sense of cohesion, drive, and creativity to be a part of what promises to be an exciting and fulfilling 2016 programme,” he added.

The MIT Global Startup Labs workshop takes place from 22nd June to 16th July at Wits and applications can be submitted by filling this Google Form.

Applications close on 30th May.
