Facebook testing temporary reaction for Mother’s Day

It seems that everybody’s favourite social network is on the experimental path again, as some users have noticed that Facebook is testing a temporary reaction – just in time for Mother’s Day.

The company has made a purple flower available to certain markets (although it didn’t explain which ones), so that you can react with a floral arrangement to anything motherly.

“To celebrate Mother’s Day, we are testing the ability for people in a few markets to leave a flower reaction,” Facebook said in a statement.

Mother's Day

This is the first time that Facebook has rolled out a temporary reaction, and if all goes well with the first run, it might make temporary reactions a permanent thing. Which sounds a bit weird, but you all know what we mean.

The company has been experimenting with a number of things lately, and most recently it expanded the ‘like’ option to include a number of other options besides the usual ‘thumbs-up’.

It also rolled out temporary profile pictures, so people could change their picture to something suitable or to mark an occasion for a short time. The most prolific use of the temporary profile picture was probably after the Paris attacks, as it allowed people to overlay their photo with the colours of the French flag.

Facebook also confirmed that after Mother’s Day the flower reaction would disappear from the available options, but it will still be visible in timelines if you used it.
