Sexpo SA is hosting a sexy cosplay competition

Sexpo South Africa, the health, sexuality and lifestyle expo hosted in Gauteng annually is getting something a bit different this year in the form of a cosplay competition.

For those that don’t know what cosplay is, the sub-culture involves folks donning outfits that make them look like their favourite game, comic book, anime, movie or TV show character.

Because of this open, “everybody is welcome” attitude, cosplaying is often done at large events like ComicCon or at our very own rAge here in South Africa, shows which are, by and large, family-friendly.

So the folks down at Lazygamer and Sexpo figured they would give people a chance to be a bit more risque in their cosplaying.

According to Lazygamer, the “sexy cosplay” has been modeled after a similar competition held at the Australian Sexpo.

“It promotes sexual empowerment, gives a place for different expressions of characters outside of the rigid family-friendly rules of most events,” said Lazygamer, “and it is a great way to encourage alternative types of cosplay.”

What’s more is that the competition will boast a cash prize pool of R20 000 plus other hampers and prizes and be judged by adult film star/cosplayer Tanya Tate. Word of warning, don’t Google that name at work, the results are about as NSFW as you can get.

The Sexpo cosplay competition will take place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec on Saturday 29th October from 10am to 11am on the main stage. Entrance to the Sexpo will set you back R150 for a Silver pass and R250 for a Gold pass which includes entry to all lounges and priority queues.

Are any cosplayers planning to compete? Let us know in the comments below.
