Turn your SMS into a cross stitch piece of art

When you think of a cross stitch, you probably don’t think of Raspberry Pis, smartphones or the term “Don’t get blood on the furniture”.

Well, thanks to maker and artist Andrew Kleindolph, you can.

The above image is actually a display. Powering it is a Raspberry Pi running openFrameworks and FONA to receive an SMS and display it. The real trick is obviously the great texture pattern and font that makes it look so realistic, as well as the custom wood enclosure for that extra little touch.

Unfortunately that’s all we know about the creation at the moment. Even Kleindolph’s website is sparse on details so we’re going to try and contact him and get more info on it. In the meantime, check out his other projects such as a CNC graffitti machine and other bizarre electronic art.

We’d really love to give one of these as a gift without letting the recipient know that the output can change, and then slowly send the message small changes until we convince them they’re going crazy. Because if you can’t use cool tech to convince people they’re being haunted, what use is it?
