You can now battle Pokémon inside of Halo 5

Halo 5’s Forge Mode is a hub of community innovation. It’s brought light modding capabilities to a platform where it is sorely needed. Sometimes called “Garry’s Mod for Xbox”, it’s recently been used to play Pokémon inside of Halo…. kind of.

If you’re looking for a byte-for-byte recreation of any of the Pokémon games, you’re going to be severely disappointed. What’s on offer here is a glorified game of “rock-paper-scissors”.

Here’s how it works: in a multiplayer game against a real person, you get to choose between red, green and blue. Each of these correspond to the Pokémon Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur respectively. If you’re a bit rusty on your Pokémon, these three beat each other in the same way rock, paper and scissors do.

The unique Halo twist comes in the result of the draw. The winner of the match will be given a weapon which they can use to slay their opponent, winning the round. In the result of a draw, both players get a weapon and whoever has the faster reflexes will win.

Derpy character models and simplified gameplay aside, we really like this creation. Adding Pocket Monsters to anything makes it instantly better.

If you want to play this yourself, here is a link to the map. More information about it is available in the description of the video above.

And to save you the question: our favourite Pokémon is Tyrantrum. It’s a T-rex-dragon-Pokémon, your argument is invalid.
