Virtual reality and DLC coming to SUPERHOT

Launched at the end of February this year, SUPERHOT was warmly received by new players as well as those who enjoyed it during Early Access.

Now there’s more news to be excited about as new DLC and a virtual reality (VR) version of the game are in the pipeline.

The developers behind the game announced that they’re working with the Oculus team to add support for the Oculus Rift. Aside from the obvious immersive benefits of VR, there are also creative new features mentioned:

The level of game immersion that you get from playing SUPERHOT in VR is simply crazy. We try to add as much as we can to that from us. Recently, we played around with holophonics type of sounds in SUPERHOT. Thanks to that you will be able to for example “locate” a passing bullet just by the noise it creates.

Shooting up bad guys in your own little spacetime bubble, in VR, while using sound alone to locate errant bullets? Yes please, sir, sign us up.

Unfortunately, while the game will be adding VR on the Oculus Rift, which may mean other VR devices won’t be supported. But one eagle eyed user on Reddit spotted something in a gif on the dev blog, which looks like HTC Vive hardware.

While its presence doesn’t really tell us anything, it could (hopefully) mean that the game is being grounded on the Oculus before it comes to other platforms.

Last and least is the DLC, because there’s little information regarding it. In the dev blog , it simply reads: “The larger bits we’ll be talking about in future dev logs are an amazing new DLC for SUPERHOT”. While we don’t know what that entails as of yet, keep checking back to the blog or games.htxt for more updates.
