Back in May we wrote a story on the SkateHacks tours which were planned to go through the Northern Cape. Those tours are now over, so, what went down?
Like the apps SkatePoint and Sk8t Quiz, youngsters were taught about the Rapid Applications Development platform (MIT App Inventor) and how they could make their own apps.
There was also a maker corner where participants were encouraged to create a smart skateboard to measure performance metrics on a baord.
A lot more happened over the course of the tours, so check out this gallery created be Geekulcha:
But, it’s not over yet. This was only the Northern Cape leg of the tour. Tomorrow, on Youth Day, there will be another event in Soweto which you can attend.
In addition, there will be a #SkateHacks category at the Geekulcha annual hackathon. The best idea that uses open source tech to make skateboards better will have their idea supported by Geekulcha to be developed further. If you want more information on any of that, email them directly at [email protected].
Finally, remember to wear a helmet. There’s no point learning how to make cool stuff if you’re just going to knock it right out of your head the the next time you fall down.
