PlayStation VR is coming to South Africa

South African PlayStation players rejoice (and then start saving): Sony has announced that the Virtual Reality (VR) gaming headset for the PS4 is coming to our shores.

According to a post over on Sony’s official blog, the PS VR will be available for purchase in South Africa on October 13th of this year. There’s no word yet on how much it will cost locally, although you could probably make a guess based on the international prices ($399 in the US, £349 in the UK).

Try not to burst into tears.

The post also lays out what punters will receive after they fork over their dough. The PS VR box contains:

  • PlayStation VR headset
  • Processor unit
  • Stereo earbuds
  • HDMI cable
  • USB cable
  • AC adaptor and power cord
  • PS VR headset connection adaptor

What this announcement also means is that, unless HTC or Oculus suddenly reveal that their VR headsets are on their way to South Africa before October 13th, the PS VR will be the first dedicated gaming virtual reality headset to land in local retailers.

It’s worth noting that Sony’s apparently committed to having a rather impressive list of launch titles for the PS VR, so if you do decide to buy the headset at launch, you probably won’t be playing anything as lame as Knack. Then again, you will probably have to fork over cash on top of the headset for the games you want to play – unless Sony’s planning some awesome bundles for the launch as well.

That sound you hear? That’s PS4 owners’ credit cards the country over, weeping.
