iOS 10 has been bricking some phones

Alongside Apple’s announcement last week on what exactly will be packed into the new iPhone 7, the next item on the agenda that excited Apple fans was the announced overhaul of the iOS operating system.

Apple started rolling out the iOS 10 update in the US last night, but excitement soon turned to fear as a number of people have reported the update bricked their phones.

Many users were unable to your their phones after the update was started, as it seemingly failed to process the request. What happened next, required users to connect their phone to a PC synched with iTunes to manually force the update.

Apple has since announced the issue has been resolved.

“We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability. The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers,” an Apple spokesperson told The Verge.

The update will once again be a staggered launch across the world, so it doesn’t seem as if any South Africans have been affected by the bug.

Apple has also decided to remove the revolver emoji from its iOS lineup – which happened with the iOS 10 update, as we reported it would happen back in April.

The revolver will instead be replaced with a brightly coloured water pistol – which has clearly been designed to resemble a toy.

The swapping of the revolver for a pistol is only one of two non-gender emojis to get a bit of a refresh. Apple explained that with iOS 10, a healthy dose of emojis will be redesigned to better reflect gender diversity.
