Fighter jets and weapons galore at Africa Aerospace and Defence

One of the biggest military expos in the country is taking place right now at the Waterkloof Airforce base in Pretoria – the Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) expo.

If military aircraft, vehicles and equipment is your thing, you should definite pop around to see some of the latest technology used on the battlefield. Almost every major manufacturer in the world is exhibiting to some degree, and it also includes a healthy dose of South African technology from Paramount and Denel.

In the seven hangars around the base are the exhibition halls, and features displays from American, Chinese, Russian and Turkish companies.

As part of the expo, there are air displays as well, and visitors can look forward to seeing the superb Gripen plane in action, as well as others like the C-130 Hercules and the Silver Falcons.

For fans of Transformers, there is also a giant ‘Parabot’ made out of military vehicle parts, created by Paramount. There is also a General Atomics MQ-1 Predator drone show, which is used by the United States Air Force and Central Intelligence Agency.

If you want an idea of what to expect from the show, we were given a sneak preview last week.
