Dion Wired picks up ASUS gaming laptop range

We’re down at the rAge expo at the Northcliff Dome this morning, looking for tidbits of interesting news from SA’s biggest gaming expo. First is in already in and it hearks from laptop and gaming PC manufacturer ASUS. It’s signed a deal with Dion Wired to get its gaming laptops in stores around the country, just in time for the Christmas rush.

The new laptops that are on sale in Dion include the 17inch G752 range in variants armed with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 and 1070M graphics, with GTX1080Ms on the way (priced upwards of R40K). They also include the more modestly priced 15inch G552s.

The water-cooled GX7000 is also available in South Africa, but on a built to order basis. This machine comes with SLI graphics and an external cooler which extends the liquid cooling route to a separate fan for overclocking.

Dion Wired MD Nazim Cassim says that the firm is looking to increase its PC gaming audience, and is offering a three-year on-site warranty on all new laptops sold across its range.

According to ASUS, gaming laptops now make up 2% of all laptop sales in South Africa, which may not sound like much but does account for a couple of thousand unit sold per quarter, and around double what it was last year. Most PC gamers still prefer to build their own rigs, as is evident from the massive NAG LAN taking place around the periphery of rAge this weekend.
