Startup Walletdoc wants to make paying bills a lot easier

Paying bills is one of the most laborious tasks that an adult faces. Luckily, if you are an Absa customer, the bank is at least trying to make things a bit easier for you.

The bank has partnered with startup walletdoc that allows you to pay all of your bills (from your Absa account, of course) through one application – which in theory should make life a little easier.

When set up, the service can notify you will a bill comes in, remind you when payments are due and afford you the ability to pay them as well.

The beauty of the service is that you can also pay multiple bills at the same time through one transaction, so you don’t have to make separate payments for each bill.

“Partnering with a sophisticated bank such as Absa required us to invest in a comprehensive and robust suite of information-protection measures. Data is fully encrypted and mobile transactions use either fingerprint or PIN authentication, making it safe for users to pay their bills anytime, anywhere and on-the-go,” says Leonard Shenker, joint CEO of walletdoc.

Absa’s Willie van Zyl said that the bank decided to go this route as many of its customers are moving towards digital channels for everyday services and transactions.

“Walletdoc is another step forward in our mobile banking journey. Using walletdoc is hassle-free and easy and we encourage our customers to get on board. We have piloted walletdoc with some of our clients and they have been delighted by the simplicity of this innovative solution.”

Absa isn’t walletdoc’s only integration partner, as it also can be used with EasyPay to facilitate the payment of accounts and is linked to municipalities, Eskom and Telkom.

Oh, and better yet, is that you don’t have to be an Absa customer to make use of walletdoc – you just need a bank account.
