DA marching to SABC offices to call for Hlaudi’s removal

DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, will today lead a march to the SABC’s offices in Auckland Park to call for the removal of Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

“I’ll be leading a protest with fellow South Africans who want to come to Auckland Park, to make the demand known that we want Hlaudi Motsoeneng to be removed and I’ll be handing over a memorandum, calling for his axing,” Maimane said.

A week ago, the SABC announced Motsoeneng had been appointed as the public broadcaster’s Group Executive of Corporate Affairs after spending about a week in limbo between his old job and COO and the new appointment, following a dismissed appeal by the Supreme Court of Appeal.

The DA and ANC both spoke out against the move, calling for the board to revoke the appointment.

The fitness of the board has also come under scrutiny, with the DA calling for it to be dissolved, or face legal action.

The SABC also revealed in its annual report that it had made a R411 million loss in revenue this year and that Motsoeneng was the highest paid person working for the public broadcaster.

The DA protest is scheduled to start at 10:30am.
