Activate your fireplace with a Raspberry Pi & a voice command

Like a scene from an extremely cheesy movie, one maker has set up a Raspberry Pi to turn on a fireplace and play Marvin Gaye’s “Lets Get It On” by voice command.

The Reddit user known as “hovee” undertook this project. He (or she) set up a Google Home unit to accept the phrase “OK Google, turn on my fireplace”. Upon saying that phrase an instruction is sent to a Raspberry P running the Home Assistant automation software, which then activates the fireplace.

The model of fireplace used here as a “remote” function, which was tapped into to make everything work.

To set the mood, “OK Google, play” will begin playing Let’s get it on  by Marvin Gay.

While it all looks very simple there’s a lot going on here. Further details on how this was accomplished have been provided and can be read here, but it’s not a step-by-step tutorial. If you want to pull off something similar in your house/sex dungeon you’ll need to put in a lot of hard work to figure it out.

In addition, the setup works over an iPhone and Apple Watch thanks to Apple’s HomeKit.
