Three local startups shortlisted for international insurance tech accelerator

The Startupbootcamp InsurTech accelerator has announced that three South African startups have been selected to collaborate with mentors and investors from a list of 23 international startups in 2017.

The accelerator was started in 2015 and focuses on innovations that disrupt and inspire collaboration within the insurance sector. Before selecting the ten startups that would join the accelerator, Startupbootcamp InsurTech sifted through some 2 500 startups before selecting 23 companies from 12 countries. These startups then took place in Selection Days held toward the end of November and 10 finalists were selected.

The three local startups include Aerobotics, Emerge Analytics and NuvaLaw and there is no denying their ideas are incredible.

Aerobotics for instance uses data collected by drones to provide those in the agriculture sector with in-depth analysis of their land.

Emerge Analytics helps businesses make management and operational decisions based on analysis of data from a specific company.

NuvaLaw (as the name suggests) develops ecosystems in which legal information can be processed efficiently ultimately reducing loss of time and money.

These local ventures will join seven others in a three month programme which will present them with opportunities to meet more than 1 000 mentors from the insurance tech industry. Each startup will also receive £15 000 (~R266 600) in cash to cover living expenses as well as exposure to more than €450 000 in funding through partnerships with the likes of Google, Amazon and Salesforce.

The programme will also expose the startups to a number of venture capitalists and angel investors from around the world.
