Watch: Another song released to thank Hlaudi for “good job’ at SABC

Hlaudi Motsoeneng, GE of Corporate Affairs at the SABC, has been honoured with yet another song to appreciate him for the “good job” he’s done at the SABC with regards to the 90% local music quota.

A group of various musicians from Lesotho, called the Lesotho Allstars, recently launched a song titled ” Mokakalope” to thank Motsoeneng for “uplifting African musicians” through the decision to have 90% local music played on most SABC radio stations.

The song is sung predominantly in SeSotho and features lines such as:

“Leave him [Motsoeneng] alone”

“Hlaudi wants music to build Africa.”

According to our count, this is the third song composed in honour of Motsoeneng. The first was a song that was reportedly sang by the SABC choir and had to be played on all SABC radio stations, by orders from Motsoeneng (we couldn’t find it anywhere online).

The second is the more popular “Thank You SABC” song, composed and performed by a number of South African musicians, including poet, Mzwakhe Mbuli. The song was released shortly after the announcement of the quota and features a repeated verse thanking Motsoeneng.

Sechaba Mokoqo and Mosito Sentsho, the composers of Mokakalope, described Motsoeneng as someone who showed leadership in deciding to uplift African musicians.
