New Assassin’s Creed trailer drops

You have to hand it to Ubisoft; the French publisher isn’t letting a little thing like Star Wars stand in the way of its run at the Christmas movie box office.

Unlike Blizzard – who held back its release of the movie adaptation of Warcraft for a whole three months to avoid getting hammered by Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens –  Ubisoft is about to pit its Assassin’s Creed movie against arguably the most anticipated movie of the year, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

It’s even ramping up anticipation by dropping a new trailer and a new clip. Feast your eyes on both below:

In case you’ve been locked in an isolation ward for the last couple of years, here’s the pitch:
Assassin’s Creed stars Michael Fassbender as a bloke called Lynch who is apparently descended from a long line of cowled killers. He’s abducted by a shadowy company called Abstergo and forced to participate in something called the Animus Project – an investigation into past lives using the DNA of its subjects.

The movie’s set in the same universe that Assassin’s Creed fans have come to know and love, but during an historical period that hasn’t been used in the games thus far: 15th Century Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. The film sees general release on 21st December.

We have to say we’re looking forward to this movie, even though our anticipation is somewhat hesitant given the fact that nearly every single movie that’s been based on a videogame IP has been utter rubbish. Still, we live in hope…
