Sony heats up local console war with two PS4 promotions

Sony has just fired its latest salvo in the ongoing battle for the hearts and wallets of South African videogame fans.

The PlayStation platform holder has announced two promotions in the run up to Christmas aimed at having a PS4 under your television once all the wrapping paper has been disposed of.

Starting on the 9th of December, Sony is offering punters who purchase a standalone or bundled PS4 a copy of FIFA 17. Yep, you can pick up EA’s football sim for nothing if you buy a PS4. Incidentally, our erstwhile reviewer Charlie Fripp played the game earlier this year, and by all accounts, he rather liked it.

That promotion runs until 14th December, but Sony isn’t done yet. Its second promotion offers consumers the chance to pick up a standalone PS4 500GB console at the reduced price of R3 999.99 and this offer starts on the 15th of December and runs until Christmas Eve.

Both of these promotions are offered at the following stores:

  • Animeworx
  • BT Games
  • C.N.A
  • Dion Wired
  • Game4U
  • Game
  • Incredible Connection
  • Musica
  • Makro
  • Raru
  • Takealot.com
  • ToysRus
  • Toyzone

It goes without saying (but we’ll say it anyway) that both promotions at each individual store are only running while stocks last.

It seems that Sony is taking the movements of its nearest and dearest competitor very seriously indeed. It was only last week that Microsoft and Prima Interactive announced that the Xbox One Black Friday deal was being extended until the end of the Festive Season.

It feels a little mean to list the deals in a story about Sony’s promotions, but hey, if you’re interested in owning an Xbox One without selling a kidney, we have you covered.
