DIY Data Knife from Titanfall that does everything except hack robots

Amidst all the acrobatics and mech battles in Titanfall and Titanfall 2, there’s a really interesting fictional piece of equipment called the Data Knife.

Despite it’s name, the knife’s primary use is as a hacking tool. Players can stab into certain enemy robots in the game, and turn them into allies.  It also has many other uses, including being used as a flight stick in one mission in the second game.

Maker “Adam Shefki” has made a “functional” replication of the knife using a hollow 3D print filled with electronics.

Inside of the handle of the knife there’s an Arduino compatible micro-controller connected to an LED cluster and a button to activate it.

While Shefki didn’t provide a video, the description for the project states that pressing the button will play a hacking animation and sound like the one in the game.

If you’d like to have your own Data Knife, you’ll need the free files from MyMiniFactory to 3D print it as well as the electronics listed in the description of the files. The code used to run the animation is there too.

Alternatively, because LEGO Titanfall is so popular, you should also check out this recreation of the Data Knife in the brick. Thankfully, due to its small size, it can be made with even a modest LEGO collection.

Edit: Thanks to some comments on Reddit, we have found that a video was uploaded, you can watch it below.
