Code4CT and US Consulate offering free coding class for girls this weekend

Code for Cape Town (Code4CT), which runs coding camps for high schools in the Mother City, has teamed up with the US Consulate to offer a free introduction to coding class this Saturday.

Code4CT is offering its the “Power of Coding” workshop, valued at R300 per person, for free for Grade 10 girls interested in learning about coding.

Power of Coding is a three-hour workshop aimed at introducing learners to what coding is, how it applies to learners’ interests and giving them an idea of whether they have the aptitude for a career in web development.

Attendees will code their first project and, at the end of the session, take a test to determine whether they qualify to apply for Code for Cape Town’s full learning programme, which includes code classes, visits to tech companies and the chance to meet inspiring women in tech.

As a project which empowers young women to leverage technology for social innovation, Code4CT is looking for high potential, committed girls who will thrive in the opportunities provided by the organisation and partner initiatives.

There are 20 free tickets per workshop – if you want to must book a spot, sign up on Quicket.

The next free class will be held in March.

  • Date: 4th February and 4th March 2017
  • Times: 9am to 12pm
  • Place: American Corner in Cape Town Central Library
