Android users can now use Instagram offline

Facebook has announced offline functionality for data-heavy app Instagram on Android, allowing users to use most of its features, even when the internet connection isn’t very reliable.

The announcement was made yesterday at Facebook’s annual F8 developer conference. The company said the offline version will allow users to keep scrolling through previously loaded photos and videos, comment, like, save content or unfollow an account.

Once you’re connected to the internet again, everything you did offline will then register online in the background, just like with the Facebook offline version.

Massive growth in user numbers

It was also revealed that Instagram had 600 million monthly active users across the globe in June 2016, up from 500 million in September 2015.

Instagram’s Snapchat-like Stories feature has also seen significant growth, reportedly even recording more daily active users (200 million) than Snapchat.

The offline mode for iOS will be added later on.

The update has not yet been released locally on Google Play, so keep an eye out for it over the next few days.
