Bandai Namco reveals Code Vein, a Dark Souls-esque action RPG

In this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, Bandai Namco revealed their latest project, Code Vein.

Originally teased a week ago via an animated short on Bandai Namco America’s official YouTube channel, Code Vein seems to draw inspiration from vampires and is being promoted with the hashtag #PrepareToDine. You can check out the video below:

Code Vein is being built by the God Eater team using Unreal Engine 4 and is currently 35% complete. The game seems to feature a touch of Dark Souls influence to it with a buddy system being a key feature.

Gematsu reported that the game is set in the near future where everything has gone to ruin. Players will take on the role of Revenants, vampires that possess supernatural abilities. Revenants live in a society called “Vein” and seemingly depend on blood for survival.

Players will mainly use close-range weapons such as great swords and one-handed swords while other weapons such as spears and hammers also exist and can be used for combat.

An official gameplay trailer is set for release during the month of May 2017 so we don’t have to wait too long to see exactly what the title brings to the table.
