How to make Gundam models move with an Arduino

People do a lot of awesome stuff with Gundam kits in the world of Gunpla, but we can’t recall ever seeing one incorporating an Arduino to add movement and light to a model.

One maker from South Korea has done that with what looks like an Arduino Uno, some servos, and LEDs.

The finished model can move its right arm and head, as well as activate lighting effects in its eyes and the Beam Saber.

While we’re sure something to this effect has been done before, this project also comes with a guide to replicate it over on Instructables.

It comes with the steps to modify this specific kit to accommodate the electronics as well as the code running on the Arduino.

As one commenter has pointed out, using a smaller microcontroller would have allowed the entire electronic assembly to fit into the model. As it stands right now, some of the components are tentatively connected outside of the main build.

You can see a demo video of the project below. Make sure you also visit that Instructables page for more images of the build, even if you’re not going to make your own.
