Outa and DA to challenge Brian Molefe’s return to Eskom

Former Eskom CEO and now former MP, Brian Molefe, who left the power utility under a dark cloud five months ago, will now be returning to his old job.

Eskom board spokesperson Khulani Qoma, announced this in an interview on 702 Talk Radio this morning, stating that Molefe would be making his return on Monday.

This comes after speculation that Molefe, who was deeply linked to the Gupta family in Thuli Madonsela’s State Capture report, was moved from Eskom shortly after the report’s released to be made Minister of Finance during President Jacob Zuma’s then unconfirmed cabinet reshuffle, to further the interested of the Guptas in National Treasury.

There was an uproar even after Molefe has left Eskom, when it was revealed that Eskom intended on paying Molefe a pension pay out of R30 million, a decision which was quickly squashed by Minister of Public Enterprises, Lynne Brown.

Matshela Koko has been the acting CEO since Molefe’s departure.

Counting acting CEO’s and Molefe’s return, this is the ninth CEO Eskom has had since 2000.

Outa and the DA have both said they will challenge this decision.
