Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s application to cancel disciplinary hearing dismissed

The former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng has seen his application to stop his disciplinary hearing next week dismissed with costs.

The disciplinary hearing follows comments made during a press conference Motsoeneng held last month, which led to him being charged with misconduct by the SABC.

The former SABC C-level executive also attempted to have the chairperson of the disciplinary committee, Nazeem Cassim recuse himself from the the hearing, according to Times Live.

Despite’s Motsoeneng’s legal team arguing that the matter should be heard in the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration because his comments about the SABC should be considered protected public disclosure, Judge Stefan Coetzee dismissed the application and ordered Motsoeneng to cover the costs of Cassim and the SABC’s lawyers.

The SABC is not the only organisation at odds with Motsoeneng; following his press conference in April the DA called for his immediate dismissal.

“The SABC interim board has a long road ahead of it and the unenviable task of fixing problems years in the making. It is time it publicly demonstrates its seriousness to fix the public broadcaster and rid it of those who violates its rules,” the DA’s Phumzile Van Damme said after the conference.

Motsoeneng’s disciplinary hearing is now scheduled to take place next week Friday after Motsoeneng and his legal team have met with Cassim. That meeting is scheduled to take place next Wednesday.
