Red Dead Redemption 2 delayed until 2018

Rockstar Games has announced that one of this year’s most anticipated games, Red Dead Redemption 2, will not be seeing release this year.

Fans of this series, who had been screaming for a sequel since to the first instalment that was released all the way back in 2010, went bonkers last year when Rockstar announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 was in the pipeline for ‘Fall of 2017’ (that would be spring locally).

Now, it seems, they’re going to have to wait until spring of next year (well, autumn, as far as this region’s concerned). What a swizz!

That having been said, Rockstar was very forthcoming about its reasons for the delay and the publisher has promised that more details about Red Dead Redemption 2 are mere months away from being announced.

“We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready,” Rockstar Games said in a statement. “We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer.”

Also, presumably to ease the fanbase’s collective pain, Rockstar has released some rather tasty screenshots, which you can feast your eyes upon below. It’s not going into the realms of hyperbole to say that this game does look eye-wateringly beautiful. Have a gander:

Don’t they look pretty?

Still, this bad news aside, if you’re in the market for a Western videogame this year, it appears Far Cry 5 may suit your taste (EDIT if it turns out to be a Western as many fans suspect). If that’s the case,  it’s likely that the only people who are thankful for this news are those working on this Ubisoft game, as RDR2’s delay means they have this genre all to themselves this year.
