The Marvel juggernaut keeps chugging along; it seems every other month a new movie or TV show set in the Marvel Universe pitches up.
This year alone we’ve had Iron Fist land on Netflix and Logan hit local cinemas. This Friday Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 sees release and there’s Spiderman: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok still in the pipeline.
Oh, there’s also a show set for release this August called The Defenders – you may have heard of it.
If not, it’s essentially another Marvel team-up IP, only rather than a movie, it’s a planned series on Netflix. The Defenders puts Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), Jessica Jones (Krystan Ritter) and Luke Cage (Mike Colter) – characters who have all had their own Netflix series – in a marquee TV show in which they battle the sinister ninja clan, The Hand.
So far all Marvel was prepared to reveal were teasers. Now, however, a full trailer has dropped. Have a gander:
Fans of the aforementioned TV shows will probably notice a couple of returning characters; Elektra (Elodie Young), Daredevil’s on-again-off-again assassin girlfriend makes a brief appearance in the trailer and Scott Glenn seems set to return as horn-heads mentor/sometime antagonist Stick.
The trailer also reveals that Sigourney Weaver is set to star and a quick trip to Wikipedia reveals that she’s to be the main antagonist in the series.
All told, the trailer makes The Defenders look pretty promising and, Lord knows, after the critical black-eye Iron Fist received when it aired earlier this year, Marvel could do with a decent series.
The Defenders is set to air on Netflix this August.
