Eskom has announced the appointment of a new acting CEO, the second this year.

Johnny Dladla, takes over the reigns at the power utility, during a time when its leadership has been involved in controversy since the year began.

“Dladla has sufficient skills to excel in this role. He has 22 years of experience within the Eskom, 17 years invested in various non-regulated businesses and 5 years as Chief Executive Officer for Eskom Enterprises and its subsidiaries,” said Acting Board Chairman, Zethembe Khoza.

Matshela Koko had been acting CEO since January this year after CEO, Brian Molefe, had seemingly resigned in December. Koko then had to step down when Molefe returned to Eskom, stating he had not resigned, but taken early retirement.

Molefe had barely returned for a week when he had to be fired from his position by Minister of Public Enterprises, Lynne Brown.

“I welcome the appointment of Mr Dladla as it will bring further stability to Eskom and its executive team,” Brown said.

In further boasting his experience, Eskom highlighted that Dladla has plied his career among international brands such as BHP Billiton and South African Breweries (SAB).

“He has successfully executed major projects, built sustainable relationships, legacy of service delivery with major local and international private and public sector organisations. A Chartered Marketer, he has studied across a range of critical fields including finance and accounting among Harvard Business School, Fort Hare University, Cranfield University (UK), AAA School of Advertising and IMM,” the company said.

Brown has obligated the board to finalise the appointment of a permanent Group Chief Executive to ensure long-term stability to the utility.
