While motion control may not sound like the safest way to control a drone, it’s a really cool concept that you can now hack together yourself with some store-bought hardware.
In a creation called “myWingMan” engineering student Sarah Corsham married a Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 to the Leap Motion controller.
In the video below you can see how this works, with the ability to push, pull and swipe the Parrot around in the air. The National Instruments LabVIEW software handles the interface between the two pieces of hardware, and has some automated options for take off, landing, and a few aerial tricks.

As Corsham is an intern at National Instruments, this project may be a display of what the LabVIEW software can do. We really enjoy these kinds of projects being released for us to look at.
Circuito.io does something similar where they release instructions to build cool stuff whenever they make a display piece to illustrate their services. An Arduino Nokia Snake game and the Nespresso capsule detector are two such projects we’ve looked at in the past.
