SEACOM plans to extend reach of fibre in Western Cape with new acquisition

SEACOM has announced the acquisition of MacroLan, an internet services and managed services provider based in Cape Town.

The acquisition comes as SEACOM tries to increase the reach of its fibre network in the metropolitan areas across South Africa. MacroLan’s offices will now serve as SEACOM’s regional office in Cape Town.

“SEACOM has grown significantly following the successful launch of SEACOM Business which focuses on bringing broadband and cloud services directly to commercial business users. The MacroLan acquisition is a continuation of this story, through which we will grow the SEACOM family of talented staff and satisfied customers in the Western Cape,” SEACOM chief executive officer Byron Clatterbuck said of the acquisition.

For customers the move means that getting access to SEACOM’s network which boasts low contention ratio (or no contention whatsoever on some offerings), no fair usage policy and symmetrical upload and download speeds.

As for MacroLan’s existing customers, chief executive officer Paul Johnson has said it’s business as usual.

“Our existing customers will continue to experience the same high levels of service to which they are accustomed, with the added benefit that our network will now integrate directly into SEACOM’s African networks and submarine cable investments,” he said.
