Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications is currently whittling down the list of 363 nominees for the SABC Board to just 36 individuals.
The committee met in Parliament today to deliberate on the shortlist, out forward candidates from each represented political party and make a decision on the top 36.
Among one of the candidates put forward by the ANC was Dr Snuki Zikalala, a controversial former SABC boss. Zikalala, however, didn’t make the shortlist as opposition parties refused to re-elect him.
The five members of the current interim SABC board were all shortlisted. They are:
- John Matisson
- Febbe Potgieter-Gqubule
- Krish Naidoo
- Mathatha Tsedu
- Khanyisile Kweyama
The other shortlisted members announced so far are:
- Thabiso Andrew Ramotso
- Kharidza Dzuguda Rufus
- Michael Grant Markovitz
- Willie Currie
- Leanne Govindsamy
- Deenadaylen Konar
- Harriet Meier
- Dawn Earp
- Michael Bauer
- Judge Christopher Greenland
- Desmond Golding
- Mathumo Manaka
- Victor Rambau
- Rachel Kalidass
- Nomvuyo Batyi
The committee is still deliberating on the rest of the shortlist candidates and is expected to wrap up in the evening.
