Uber names the person it wants as the new CEO – Expedia’s Dara Khosrowshahi

Since Travis Kalanick stepped down as Uber’s chief executive officer in June, the firm’s board of directors has been hunting for a new head and it appears as if it has settled on a name.

That name is Dara Khosrowshahi, who is also the chief executive officer of travel firm Expedia. The news follows reports that HP’s Meg Whitman and General Electric chairman Jeff Immelt were also up for the role.

While one would expect that Uber would announce the decision after contacting Khosrowshahi, Recode says that the Expedia chief was not informed of the decision but we suspect he will have heard of the decision by now.

That said the job is Khosrowshahi’s if he wants it, and what a job it would be.

Should the Expedia CEO take the position he would be tasked with turning the firm around. Uber has been at the centre of a number of controversies including accusations of sexual harassment.

Had that not been enough of an issue, the firm has recently been involved in a lawsuit which sees a former Waymo engineer (that went on to work at Uber) being accused of stealing information.

That’s not to mention the numerous of controversies that former CEO Travis Kalanick has been embroiled in this year.

So now we wait in anticipation for news that Khosrowshahi has accepted the position. If he doesn’t it’s back to the drawing board for Uber as both Whitman and Immelt have declined the position.

For Uber’s sake, we’re holding thumbs that he takes the position.
