HP has crammed a workstation into a backpack

Like it or not backpack computers are now a part of our lexicon and probably will be until VR headsets are less reliant on being tethered to a PC.

Until that time though we can ogle sleek small form factor PCs such as this one from HP. The Z VR Backpack is primed for use in VR but its not gaming HP is betting on but rather, business applications.

The firm sees this backpack being used for training or in show rooms to give customers a virtual experience of a car they might be thinking of buying or a tour of a home.

For those applications the word “overkill” comes to mind when we consider the specs of the Z VR Backpack.

This small form factor PC is fitted with a quad-core Intel Core-i7 7820HQ running at 2.9GHz (3.9GHz Boost) and up to 32GB of non-ECC DDR4 2400.

Handling graphics processing duties is an NVIDIA Quadro P5200 with 16GB of GDDR5.

We’re sure like us the big question on your lips is – how much does this cost?
According a report by The Verge the Z VR Backpack’s pricing will start at $3 299 (R43 454 direct conversion) but it will come with a dock so you can take the PC off of your back and use it as a PC.
