Shadow of War launches to Very Positive reviews on Steam

In the run-up to the release of Middle-earth: Shadow of War today the game was in the news for a lot of negative reasons, but it seems to have had a smooth go of things so far.

85% of the 502 user reviews on Steam are positive leaving the title with a “Very Positive” standing overall. And it’s selling well too: SteamSpy says that nearly 100 00 people own the game already, and Steam Charts is showing a concurrent player number of  26 700 at the time of writing.

On PlayStation 140 ratings average out to five out of five stars and the Xbox Store doesn’t seem to have any ratings yet.

We’re honestly a bit surprised at this with many of the comments we’ve seen about the game suggested that it may be slammed at launch. That may still happen, however, as we think these early reviews are coming from fans of the previous game who were going to buy the sequel no matter what.

Through all the controversy around lootboxes, the botched charity DLC,sexy Shelob” and the massive install size, Shadow of War looks like it’s selling well and people are enjoying it.

Regardless of anyone’s feelings towards the game and the actions of the publisher and developer behind it, it’s still an interesting look at botched PR prior to launch. We’re sure there’s still a lot to be said about this game in the coming months.
