The iPhone 8 Plus battery is swelling and splitting the handset

The iPhone 8 Plus might be afflicted with a battery swelling problem, according to several reports.

The latest party-sized smartphone from Apple went on sale in many parts of the world on 22nd September, and since then several stories have popped up stating that the iPhone 8 Plus was splitting apart as the battery expanded.

This causes the handset’s display to separate from the aluminium body of the iPhone 8 Plus. Not good, not good at all.

So far The Guardian has reported that handsets in Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Canada and Greece have split in twine.

Apple has said that it is looking into the matter.

The matter of battery faults is likely to cause a stir for Apple. While many will look to Samsung and how it successfully traversed battery faults of its own last year with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Apple might not be that lucky.

Unlike Samsung, which has numerous income streams (seriously, the South Korean firm has a construction division), Apple kind of needs its handsets to sell well.

In May Apple revealed its financial earnings for the second quarter of 2017 and the iPhone accounted for $33.2 billion of the firm’s $52.9 billion in sales.

Here’s hoping the iPhone 8 Plus battery issue is limited to a few lemons then.
