Hearthstone’s final Year of the Mammoth expansion is Kobolds & Catacombs

Hearthstone’s Year of The Mammoth is drawing to an end and it has not been without its controversies.

Whether it was the Crystal Core nightmare that was Rogue in Journey to Ungoro or the current swarm of Priests and before that Druids since The Knights of the Frozen Throne’s release.

We’re on the precipice of an entirely new expansion though and Blizzard revealed it this evening during the Blizzcon 2017 Opening Ceremony.

Hearthstone game director Ben Brode took to the Hearthstone stage to announce that the next expansion would be Kobolds & Catacombs in a rather interesting manner.

Adopting the role of Dungeon Master Brode took the crowd on a Dungeons and Dragons sort of quest in which he revealed cards.

The first was Marin the Fox a legendary with 6/6 stats and an eight mana cost to play. Marin the Fox also has the Battlecry – Summon a 0/8 Treasure Chest for your opponent. (Break it for awesome loot!).

Loot includes Tolins Goblet – Draw a card. Fill your hand with copies of it.

Log into Hearthstone on Monday and you get a free copy. Blizzcon attendees and virtual ticket holders will receive a Golden copy.  Something tells us the game was rigged.

Next up a rare Hunter spell card Crushing Walls – Destroy your opponent’s left and and right-most minions for 7 mana.

There is also a new keyword – Recruit. This allows you to pull a minion and play it directly.

There is also a new type of card – Legendary Weapons. The first card revealed was for Priest. Dragon Soul is a 0/3 weapon with the text “After you cast 3 spells in a turn, summon a 5/5 dragon”. Seems pretty easy considering the current state of Priest.

All classes will get Legendary Weapons.

Brode also revealed a new free single player mode Dungeon Run. The mode will give you a deck of 10 cards and you will earn additional cards by defeating a slew of bosses. You lose, you start over Brode went so far as to describe at a Heartstone “rogue-like”.

Kobolds & Catacombs is out in December.
