Kobolds & Catacombs gets an official release date

Kobolds & Catacombs is set to drop on 8th December according to news from Blizzard.

The latest Hearthstone expansion takes on the theme of a Dungeons & Dragons quest with a new card type and single player mode that we’re rather interested to test out.

That new card type is the Spellstone. These cards allow the player to upgrade the effect. The Warlock spell Lesser Amethyst Spellstone allows players to deal three damage and heal for the same amount. The card’s effect can be upgraded by taking damage from your cards until you reach a maximum damage of seven for a four-mana cost.

The single player mode Blizzard is introducing is called Dungeon Run. In this mode players will face a boss and if they manage to defeat it they will be able to add cards to their hands. Lose and your run is over and you’ll have to start all over again.

Free card packs

Given that this is the third full expansion of the year that contains 135 new cards you’d be forgiven for feeling a bit hard-pressed to fork out the €49.99 (~R809) Blizzard is asking for a 50 pack pre-order.

The good news is that Blizzard is giving away a few free packs and cards.

Users that log into the Hearthstone client after release will receive a random Legendary Weapon card as well as three Kobolds & Catacombs packs.

Three more packs can be earned by completing three Dungeon Run quests sequentially.

Finally, Blizzard has given away a free pack every week for the last two weeks during the weekly Tavern Brawl.

For those that aren’t bothered with spoilers we recommend you check out the cards that have been revealed thus far over on Reddit.
