Vodacom launches work experience programme for youngsters

Vodacom has today announced a refresh of its Change the World programme that will not only give youngsters a leg-up but the communities they live in as well.

The programme will keeps its name but will now focus on creating work experience opportunities for young people in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

These young folk will then use their skills to give back to their community through an non-profit organisations, who in turn will use their skills and time to give back to their communities through a non-profit organisation (NPOs) of their choice for a year.

Vodacom says it will ensure these individuals are well remunerated.

“Through the Change the World programme, the youth are afforded a unique opportunity to do something close to their heart, while imparting their ICT skills to help society,” said Vodacom Group Corporate Affairs chief executive officer Takalani Netshitenzhe in a statement.

“As the impacts of the fourth industrial revolution are going to be felt hardest by the youth and women in particular, we see this as an opportunity to help bridge the digital divide in communities whilst preparing youth for a future in a fast digitising world,” added Netshitenzhe.

The first group of 20 young professionals for the 2017 intake of the Change the World initiative were inducted in Midrand this morning.
