So here’s a novel approach to Black Friday: allow people to sample your product ahead of the day all prices drop. That way you have a better chance of bagging them.

This is the tactic Bethesda and MachineGames have taken with the rather superb Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. There’s a free trial of the game (or demo, if you remember those – God I’m old!) available for download right now on the Xbox Store, PSN Store and Steam.

Naturally, if you fancy paying for the game once you’ve sampled its Nazi-brutalising delights, you’ll be able to keep any progress you’ve already made.

At the time of writing, incidentally, Steam, the PSN Store and the Xbox Store are all offering 50% off both editions. This means that if you want the base game, it currently costs R559.50 (R399.50 on Steam) and if you want the full-fat, season pass enhanced, Nazi fist-in-face version, you’re looking at R1 199,40 (R559.50 on Steam). Most of these deals are good for the next six days.

If you’re in any doubt as to whether Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus is worth your time and money (it is), head on over to htxt’s review of the game.  I played it ahead of release and thought it was really very good.
