Make your tea the morbid way with the 3D printed ‘Tea Gallows’

If you over or under brew your cups of tea, or you don’t want to stick around and watch the cup while the bag is in, we have the maker project for you.

The ‘Tea Gallows’ by Stephan Eitel is a 3D printed machine that you hook a tea bag onto on one end. You set a timer – up to eight minutes – and then the bag goes into the water. When the time is up there’s an audio cue to let you know the process is completed.

Eitel tells us that designing the printed parts of the project in Creo Elements took around 100 hours as he had never used any CAD software before. Printing the parts out took around eight hours using 180 grams of filament, and the finished build stands 22.5 centimetres high.

If you’d like to make your own, the files for the body of the project are available on Thingiverse. Make sure you read the description for a list of electronics components you’ll need.

We’re sure this idea has been done before as a retail project, but it’s still an interesting little project if you’re serious about what you drink.
