Toyota South Africa issues recall of over 700 000 vehicles

Toyota South Africa has issued a recall of more than 700 000 vehicles because of an airbag safety issue.

The auto manufacturer told Reuters that the problem is related to Takata airbags which are defective.

“Toyota South Africa has initiated an immediate recall in excess of 700,000 vehicles across 10 models, including Lexus,” a Toyota spokesperson said.

This marks the second time Toyota South Africa has had to issue a recall of vehicles due to defective airbags. Four years ago Yaris, Hilux, Innova and Fortuna vehicles were recalled for the same reason.

Toyota vehicle owners that affected by this recall will be contacted by Toyota according to a report by EWN.

Toyota South Africa is expected to release a statement today detailing all affected models at which point we will be sure to update you.
