South African cartoon MooseBox to launch later this year

If you love gorgeous pixel art, videogame-inspired settings and locally made cartoons, MooseBox is the show for you.

Created by South African animation director Mike Scott, the show was picked up by Nickelodeon and has been in development for some time now.

The outstanding pilot below – which was created by the well-known Cape Town studio Triggerfish Animation – has been online for more than three years now.

Thankfully we now have more information about the release of the show. Alexi Wheeler, Nickelodeon’s vice president of animation and production, told us this morning that the show will launch between June and August of this year.

Scott states that there will be 20 short webisodes (each 90 seconds long) that he has been working on. While Triggerfish did handle the pilot, Johannesburg studio Mind’s Eye Creative is behind the rest of the show.

If you’d like to know more about MooseBox we suggest checking out Scott’s personal blog which also talks about voice acting talent from New York and the fact that he first came up with the idea way back in 2013.

As a final extra bit of South African pride, Nickelodeon has also told us that there’s more local content coming from them soon.
