Luke Cage Season 2 has a release date

Winter is coming. In fact, it’s only about a couple of months away. This means cold weather, less inclination to go out and a need for long weekends on the couch or under a duvet.

To that end, Netflix seems to have you covered. Turns out that the second season of Luke Cage will arrive smack bang in the middle of South Africa’s coldest time – June 22nd. This has been confirmed by the latest trailer you can have a gander at below:

There’s not a hell of a lot to go on in the trailer, apart from the fact that Luke Cage (Mike Colter) is still the bulletproof, blade-resistant, headcracking badass he was in the first series. So for a more details we turn to the rumour mill and some comic book lore.

The synopsis posted over at Variety states:

The second season will pick up after Luke Cage has cleared his name. He has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem and gained a reputation. Cage will face a new enemy and be forced to battle the blurred lines between hero and villain.

All pretty standard stuff, but who is the new enemy? A quick visit over to the Luke Cage Season 2 Wiki page reveals some returning faces – Rosario Dawson will reprise her cross-show role as Claire Temple and Alfre Woodard returns as “Black” Mariah Dillard – but one name that sticks out is Mustafa Shakir as John McIver.

Click on that character’s name and it takes you to the page for Bushmaster, a villain who apparently underwent the same process as Cage, making his skin bulletproof and granting him super strength.

Seems like Mr Cage has his work cut out for him this June.
