The Division reaches 20m players, celebrates with in-game activities

Hey, readers, are any of you still playing Tom Clancy’s The Division?

We kind of gave up on Ubisoft’s open world third-person shooter a ways back since it was plagued by bugs and cheaters almost from the get-go. Our esteemed Brendyn Lotz hung in there for a while, though, but it’s been over a year since he last booted it up. The rest of us gave up on it two years ago.

To be honest we weren’t sure what the state of the game was, so we were genuinely surprised to find out that The Division has, two years on from launch, 20 million active players in it.

To celebrate, Ubisoft is packing the game’s second year anniversary with a month of activities. These will be global events that add modifiers to all in-game activities and players who rock through them can pick up new gear that helps them out (weapons, gadgets, armour) and makes them look pretty (er… clothes).

The first activity, Outbreak, kicked off last night and runs until March 5th. Assault runs from March 8th until the 12th, Strike starts on the 15th and ends on the 19th and finally Ambush kicks off on March 22nd and runs until the 26th.

“We are very proud of what we have achieved during these past two years. Listening and giving back to the community has always been our first objective and we would like to thank all The Division players for their valuable feedback and their support,” said Julian Gerighty, the game’s Creative Director.

Maybe we should give this baby another try.
