We’ve featured a lot of 3D printed arms and armour from Halo in the past, so let’s mix things up with this scale model of the Activation Index as seen in the second game.
Maker Nic Field tells us that he created this over the course of a week in SketchUp as his first project, after not finding a version he liked online.
Using screenshots from the game and dimensions found online, the model was completed, but needed a base so it could stand on its own.
Field created this part with an effort to make it look like it fits in the Halo universe while also providing room for the electronics.
The base houses a battery and an LED which lights up an acrylic rod running through the print. This adds a really nice look to the finished piece, but you will need to pick up those extra piece if you want to make one yourself.
To do that start with the files hosted on Thingiverse. This version took around 27 hours print, using both a solid PLA and a transparent one to sit over the acrylic rod.
What you’re left with is a model that stands 25 centimetres tall with the base, and 22 centimetres without it.
After printing there was a lot of filler and sanding to smooth it out before two different colours of grey were used for the paint.
