Microsoft announces partnership with the Trevor Noah Foundation

Comedian Trevor Noah launched the Trevor Noah Foundation in Vrededorp earlier today and Microsoft has been tapped up as the foundation’s technology partner.

The Trevor Noah Foundation is a youth development initiative that hopes to equip youngster with skills that ready them for higher education as well as the working world. The Foundation will also serve as a means to drive youth develop

“The higher the level of education, the higher chance the youth have of creating a future for themselves and collectively, a better South Africa,” Noah said.

Microsoft for its part will assist the Foundation by giving school pupils the opportunity to use technology as a means to enhancing the classroom experience and equipping the youth with vital digital skills.

“We understand first-hand the important role that technology plays in education and we’re proud to partner with him by bringing digital tools and skills to schools like this,” president of Microsoft Brad Smith said at the launch of the foundation.

The Foundation is currently doing a pilot project at New Nation School in Vrededorp. Pupils at the school will receive psycho-social support as well as skills development and career guidance.

“Our greatest task this year is to figure out how best to scale, and then eventually allow New Nation School to continue down the path of success,” the Foundation’s executive director Shalane Yuen said.

“We are working closely with the school to build the capacity of leadership and staff. Thinking about sustainability is crucial to achieving long-term change,” concluded Yuen.
