Gear Of The Year 2017 – SMME Business Monitors

While it may seem that one monitor is pretty much the same as another, and there’s no difference between what you use at home and what you use at work, business-focused screens have certain considerations that others don’t.

Aside from needing to be reliable for the whole nine-hour work day, business monitors are usually left on for much longer than that. Sometimes it’s over lunch or that long meeting, or maybe it’s just a few hours of overtime.

And, more often than many would like to admit, the PC stays on when five o’ clock rolls around meaning that emails, spreadsheets and more are left displayed to no one until everyone shows up again in the morning.

This presents problems with hardware failure and potential bur-in. While manufacturers may promise their product can clock in a certain amount of time, that does, unfortunately, include the time when no one is around. Burn-in occurs where elements of the digital display are visible even when turned off.

South Africa’s small businesses chose Dell as the winner in this category, walking away with 36.4% of the votes. Samsung came second with 23.7% and LG took bronze with only 8.5% of the vote.

These results perfectly mirror the consumer research choices (discussed elsewhere in this issue) so it seems that these three brands are the top dogs when it comes to screen choices in the country.

Dell has a strong business presence which may explain their dominance. Having a screen packaged with a desktop is an easy way to gain market share. We’re sure many people initially start with a Dell screen and then choose this brand again when looking for a replacement or for expansion.

Dell also offers a wide range of monitors if you’re willing to spend a bit more. They cover 1080p, 1440p, 4K and more, and there’s even a gaming range with 144 Hz refresh rates.

While gaming may not be the most common business, we can see the above mentioned higher grade option coming into use for professional colour work and editing. Samsung and LG cannot be ignored in this sector either, as they also offer similar propositions.

Shopping around may also yield ultra-wide options which are particularly useful for stacking multiple windows next to each other when a multi-monitor setup is not ideal.

When South Africa business looks for monitors that offer higher resolutions and refresh rates, these Vendors are offering them in the country for home and work use, and they are all worth your time when you need a new screen.
